This was the shot I originally wanted to get, but had some obvious issues (lens not wide enough, focus etc. etc.). However, I still kind of like it…
Just don’t look to closely at the button…I think they’ll pop any minute!
Well, as some of you know, our 10 year wedding anniversary is coming up next month, so when presented with a self-portrait challenge by the ever so fabulous Dana Pugh, I thought hmmm…why not? I know why not. Focussing on yourself when you’re not there is hard!! LOL! Actually, it was a very tough challenge and I had all these visions of grandeur about churches, fields of hay, sunflare, oh my the possibilities! But, as usual, reality got in the way. So, I just tried a couple of things at home and worked on my ability to bounce my flash a little. They are far from perfect and if I cared more, I would edit them a little better, but you know how that goes…
I’m just glad the dress still fits 😉

The changes on the island over the last decade or so are nothing short astounding. It makes me sad to see how many people are here and how much development has happened….I guess that happens everywhere, huh? However, there are still snippets of the Victoria of my childhood. One such place is Michell’s Farm. It’s just off the Pat Bay Hwy on the turn off to go to one of my favourite beaches. This area is all farmland still and it is protected as such. I’m so thankful for this as it makes the drive into Victoria so beautiful. I especially love to see it in the fall with the fields of pumpkins and Mt. Baker glistening from across the water…sigh…why did I leave here again?
I’m doing the happy dance this Monday morning (which is rare for this sleepy head). I now have CS4 which means I’m going to be doing lots of editing (okay, not so happy about that) and hence lots of posting (happy about that). Stay tuned for some new images coming soon to a computer screen near you! 😉
As an aside, I leave for Victoria (woot woot!) on Friday and return on the 13th of July! Can’t wait to smell the ocean, eat some fresh crab and play on the beach….I’m getting all giddy thinking about it. Lemme know if you’d like a session done while I’m out there!
So {sniff}, I watched {sniff} Marley & Me {sniff} last night {double sniff}. Holy cow that movie struck a chord or two. I have a few snaps of my beloved mutt after he had literally ransacked our basement when he was in his younger days. The poor boy has gone from being a spoiled inside(ish) dog to being relegated to the backyard for a couple of reasons. Shepherd/husky/lab crosses = 80 lbs of fur is one. The other being our daughter is allergic to him. We couldn’t bare to give him up as he’s 9 years old and our first furry son, so we’ve come to a mutually agreed upon arrangement.
However, after watching Marley & Me, my husband and I looked at each other and snuck him in for some cuddles and carrots (he’s strange and loves carrots and popcorn). It was actually kind of funny as he really didn’t know what to do with himself once inside. It’s been 2 years since he’s been exclusively outside and he’s adjusted well. He just kept looking at us like, “What’s wrong? Why are you letting me in?”
Here’s to you Sitka!
Anybody there? Rumour has it there’s people out there who read my schtuff. SOooo, if you’re out there and you enjoy an image, please feel free to leave a comment!! It’ll make me feel better – like I’m not just naval gazing or being narcissistic. And that includes you, Mom!
Thanks!
Shona 🙂
ps. If you don’t like an image, well, keep it to yourself…I’m a fragile artist you know!!! LOL!
Am I too much like Meredith Grey for children’s photography? Seems like the stuff I like best is all “dark and twisted”…Oh dear. Better work on my happy go lucky side instead of my turmoiled artistic side…Left brain, meet right. Right brain, meet left. Now work together, would ya!?
Happy Friday! S
Signs of spring are everywhere…here’s a few from the last few days. More to come as I’m about a month behind on processing my own photos!
Bring on the sunshine! 🙂
I’m famous…and American…
My good friend, Andy, sent this to me for Mother’s Day and I laughed and laughed and laughed… Watch here.
Best part is the baby interview and the comment about Mom’s and ponytails…oh no, not me…Uh, ya right.
Happy belated Mother’s Day!

I’ve been a little MIA of late…not sure why, but always busy or someone has been sick! I did, however, have the pleasure of photographing 40 lil’ gaffers at my sister-in-law’s school a few weeks back. Man, she’s a saint…
The reason I was there was to help out on a project they were doing that involved photography. It was really very cool. We went on a big walk and had to look for numbers and letters in everyday things that we saw and take pictures of them for our letter/alphabet books. This was inspired by Stephen T. Johnson’s books Alphabet City and City By Numbers.
Here’s my take…
Did you find the letter? (hint, look at the wires).
And another…
This one’s a little more obvious…and it’s a number.
Now go sing your ABC’s!
Shona 🙂
