I came across this blog post by a fellow photographer in the U.S. and I encourage you to read it as it outlines why bigger images look great on your walls.  The part that I really like is that she shows you exactly what various sizes look like and for visual learners such as myself, I found that to be extremely helpful.  So, without further adieu….
