When Mom greeted me at the door, I almost dropped my camera…I tell ya, these women who look like they stepped out of a magazine just weeks after giving birth put me to shame! 🙂 Seriously though, this Mama was absolutely glowing and her eyes…wowsers…I can see where her beautiful wee girl got those beautiful peepers from!
This session was so calm and relaxing, the time just whipped by! She’s a lucky little girl…her parents just adore her! Congratulations again!

I love photographing baby bits. Each newborn is so little and has his/her own personality that shines through from day 1. What amazes me is how much they change in those first few weeks. That dried up umbilical cord is only there for about a week – and it’s that cord that kept baby alive for 9 months. Wow! Their little feet have those little pin pricks from the hospital tests. Flaky, wrinkled newborn skin quickly gives way to chubby soft rolls of baby goodness. It’s all so new and lovely. You will cherish these photos in years to come and shake your head at just how much and how fast your little one has changed. I know I do. Daily!

Just a few more from THIS session. Grandpa played for the Ottawa Roughriders back in the day (hence the shot with the helmet) and I even got to hold/photograph a couple Grey Cup rings. Very cool! I did have a bit of a Shona moment, though, as I was all confused that the Roughriders colours were wrong…being a western transplant I had no clue that Ottawa used to have a team with the same name as those crazy cats from Saskatchewan! D’oh!
Happy Monday!

I’m going to let you in on a little secret…I love babies! I know, seriously shocking, isn’t it!?! This little 6 day old peanut did not disappoint and he slept in my absolute favourite way for babies…paws up! So cute, so organic, so deliciously natural to photograph. I can’t wait to share more from this session!!

I was in the presence of royalty this week…no I didn’t meet Prince William again. BUT, I did photograph a beautiful little Prince Colby and his puddin’ eatin’ big sister Princess Jordana 🙂 Just a quick sneak peak!

I gotta say, 2011 was a truly wonderful year for me both personally (except for my pooch 🙁 ) and professionally. The two are linked so closely and this was the year that I jumped on opportunities with both feet, got my groove back and felt more grounded than I’ve probably ever felt. And THAT my friends, is a good feeling!
To celebrate, I’ve put together a small slideshow of some of my favourite shots from the past year. I think it’s important to reflect on the past, learn from it all and then move on. So here’s to 2011 and look out 2012! I’m ready to take on whatever it brings!

I was so thrilled to photograph this beautiful little girl at the ripe ol’ age of 4 days! She was so sleepy and happy doing whatever…it made for a VERY relaxed newborn session for all 😉 Mom was so on the ball and called me prior to going into the hospital and as soon as baby was born! Newborn photographers dream, I tell ya!! Why is under 10 days so important? Well, babies are still a little mixed up in their sleep, so they *usually* sleep more; they don’t mind all the moving around because they are still happy to curl up and sleep; and they haven’t hit that first growth spurt. It’s not essential to a newborn session by any means, but if you would like to try for the type of images I’m posting below, I would strongly recommend it!
I hope you enjoy these photographs as much as I LOVED taking them….look at those lips…she’s killin’ me! 🙂
Oh! And big brother was one of my portfolio building clients! He’s so big now and HILARIOUS!
Take care,

Can you believe this little bundle was born early AND she’s 4 days old!?! She was so amazingly calm and she slept and slept and slept 🙂 Here is just one image of her fabulous chubby cheeks…she looks like she’s saying, “Make.it.stop!” lol! Enjoy 🙂

This cracked me up! We did some images with Mom and babe and then I was working with baby alone, but turned around to gales of laughter. Mom was goofing around with their 2 1/2 yr old and I caught a similar image of the older boy…It’s funny because I did his newborn photography session and it was deja vu since they look so much alike as babies! So a fitting sneak peak indeed!
Lots more to come!
