I had the pleasure of meeting up with one of my favourite clients this week! I’ve known him since before he was born (maternity session HERE), cuddled him right after he was born (newborn session HERE) and now chased him around on the beach at Petrie Island 🙂 He can’t walk yet, but boy he can move! Here’s just one from their Sunset Session this week!

Mini Sessions are going quickly, so make sure you book soon so you won’t be disappointed!

If this doesn’t scream “school’s out for summer”, I don’t know what does!

Oh and this is not deju vu…2nd session in as many weeks! Extended family on one side, then the other 🙂 Such fun to just play and photograph this lovely wee girl!

Um, wow!  I am beyond thrilled to announce that out of the thousands of images entered, my image came first in the Children’s Category of the NAPCP January 2012 International Competition!!  These are the kind of images that make my heart sing – taking something from the child/family/mother-to-be’s personality and running with it.  Add in incredible light and voila!  The complete gallery of winners can be viewed HERE.  There is lots of eye candy, so enjoy!

In related news, Maternity in the Market is ready to rock and roll for Sunday, May 27th.  You do not want to miss out on this amazing opportunity if you are due in June, July or August as your mini maternity session is complimentary when booking your Newborn Session.

Please contact Shona (info@shonareid.com) for details or to book your spring session!

I gotta say, 2011 was a truly wonderful year for me both personally (except for my pooch 🙁 ) and professionally. The two are linked so closely and this was the year that I jumped on opportunities with both feet, got my groove back and felt more grounded than I’ve probably ever felt. And THAT my friends, is a good feeling!

To celebrate, I’ve put together a small slideshow of some of my favourite shots from the past year. I think it’s important to reflect on the past, learn from it all and then move on. So here’s to 2011 and look out 2012! I’m ready to take on whatever it brings!

My sweet little girl thankfully indulges me by “modelling” clothes or accessories on occasion and let me say that this time she was a TROOPER!  I photographed her in this adorable dress (found HERE) and hairband on a rather chilly Ottawa evening in October, but she just grinned and bared it for me…that’s my girl!

I fell in love with a dress similar to this and contacted the store owner in Fort Worth, TX.  She was so great to deal with and made this dress specifically for my daughter as she’s a little taller than her usual patrons.  I was thrilled with how she adapted the dress and my daughter looooves it.

It was the beautiful detailing of the wee flowers that sold me…so precious!  I love photographing little girls in slip dresses, beautiful light and fields!  There’s something so classic about it 🙂

As always, when looking at the “mash potato” clouds, we discussed what animals we saw…less dinosaurs these days, but many, many, fairies and princesses…

Styled sessions are always fun, so make sure you tell me what your child/children are interested in as I *always* try to personalize my sessions to you and your family.  You may think, “My daughter likes to dance on her Daddy’s toes” or “We always watch movies as a family on Friday nights” are insignificant details to tell me, but it’s these types of special details that get my creative photography juices flowing!

Looking forward to an even more fabulous 2012!

Just a super quick sneaky-peaky of these so so cute girls…We did a full family session at Petrie Island and in between the family images, we played with tutus, chatted about their life and giggled…what’s a little girl talk without giggling!?!  Lots more to post once I stop doing the doggy paddle that is called October!  lol!

…for Chrithmath is my two front teeth!

Yup, both teeth gone in a matter of days and I’m so relieved as she was taking immense pleasure in grossing me out twisting them around and around.  In fact, I was teasing her about how she was talking and she even said, “Well, I guess it’s only fair since I bugged you so much with my teeth…Karma, you know!”  Yup.  7.  Too smart for her own good!

Now my son is trying to pull out his teeth because he wants to get money…poor boy!

PS October is pretty full now, but there are a couple of spots left on the 16th for mini sessions.  If you’re at all interested in being photographed this fall, get your name in right away!  And potential Maternity/Newborn Photography clients…stay tuned for a very cool promotion I’m working on!  Details to be announced soon!

Oh my boy…my sweet sweet boy.  Hard to believe he’s the same age that our daughter was when we moved to Ottawa!  He drives me nuts at the best of times, but within a blink he’s the sweetest little guy you’ve ever met.  I love how he goes on the bus and says good morning to the driver and gives me the biggest grin and wave once he’s on.  And I equally love how he curls up and falls asleep on the bus ride home (he told me he made it 3 stops yesterday before dozing off) and then gives me an all encompassing bear hug when he wakes up and stumbles off the bus…

Love you wee man 🙂
